Half-Life 3 is probably one of the most awaited game ever. By now, many of us have made peace with the fact that it will never happen, but some people are still hopeful.
But, I’ve only got bad news for the hopeful ones. Half-Life 3, and along with it long-awaited Half-Life 2: Episode Three, have been started and then scrapped multiple times. This only means that they will probably never see a release, ever.
Recently, GameInformer published a huge article which included an interview an insider who claimed that Half-Life 3 is not even a thing.
The employee seems to someone trusted, so there’s no mistaking it. Half-Life 3 is not happen. Further, he went on to say, “There is no such thing as Half-Life 3. Valve has never announced a Half-Life 3.”
He also explained that it was because of Valve’s very own approach to their employee creativity, that many developers began projects that could arguably be the next Half-Life. However, that never happened. He went on to point out that before the final version of Half-Life 2 was approved, there were three distinct versions ready to be produced.
He Said, “Over the years, you’ve probably had many dozens of people within the studio as early as probably 2005 working on things that they would imagine from themselves as Half-Life 3 or Half-Life: Episode 3.”
But have they ever even considered making Half-Life 3 or Half-Life 2: Episode 3? Apparently, it was under works for quite some time, but it never materialized.
“I’ve heard that some teams have had two to three people working on it, and they eventually ran into a wall, and some teams may have gotten up to 30 or 40 people before it was scrapped,” he said.
We’ve got tonnes of clues about Half-Life 3 over the years, and some even claimed that it was going to be a VR Game, or feature recruitable squads of AI characters. While almost none of that os true, they are pretty inventive ideas to say the least.
GameInformer had this to say about the ideas:
“Some are all over the place, from one end of the spectrum being what you would expect – a single-player narrative-focused game – to completely different entertainment ideas that are as wild as they are weird. […] Some were bizarre, like turning Half-Life into an RTS, or a live-action, choice-driven game.”
But, even though the ideas are interesting, Valve just isn’t interested in working on Half-Life 3 right now, and Half Life 2: Episode Three reportedly “isn’t sitting right with [Valve president Gabe Newell] and other people at Valve. Ultimately it just starves to death. What you have left is nothing going on with Half-Life.”
“I don’t think there will be any more”, says the source. “Every time a Half-Life project gets some gravity and then collapses, it becomes harder for the next one to start up.”
So, to summarize, Half-Life 3 will probably never happen, because of various reasons The idea has been around for quite some time now, but sadly, there are several problems in the way, and it gets harder by the day to think that we’ll be getting Half-Life 3, or Half Life 2: Episode 3.
